ABUJA; JULY, 2017
The President, Board and entire members of the African Business Roundtable (ABR), with deep grief and heavy hearts, announce the death of its Founder and Life Patron, Dr. Babacar Ndiaye in the early hours of Friday 14th July 14, 2017 after a brief illness.
Dr. Babacar Ndiaye, a dynamic and visionary leader with great passion for Africa’s development premised on free market enterprise, regional integration and good governance, as President of the African Development Bank Group in year 1989 established the African Business Roundtable as an Association of Business Leaders doing business in and with Africa, to engage with and advise the Bank Group on issues of private sector development.
An accomplished professional and astute administrator with knack for institution building, Dr. Babacar Ndiaye in 1989, sought and got the approval of the Board of Directors of the ADB to establish two key African institutions – The African Business Roundtable and the African Export Import (AFREXIM) Bank”. Today, these two bodies continue to support Africa on the development drive through the promotion of private sector development, enhancing trade in the Continent, facilitating market access and access to capital and promoting regional economic integration on the continent.
The late Dr. Babacar Ndiaye personally led the ABR as Honorary President at inception until the lapse of his tenure as President of the Bank Group in 1995. He continued to take keen interest in the institution, participating in several fora, undertaking activities and offering useful advice to strengthen the ABR until his death.
ABR will greatly miss his wise counsel and pragmatic support. We pray that Allah grants him rest, comfort and strengthen the immediate and extended family. The Board and Management of the ABR with renewed commitment pledges to carry on its mandate of private sector development as a legacy to this great son of Africa.
Adieu Dr. Babacar Ndiaye. Rest in perfect peace.
