As part of its commitment to rid The Federal Capital of wast and other environmental challenges, The FCT Administration collected a total of 31,166.93 tons of solid waste and deposited at the designated disposal sites in the month of July 2014.
The FCT Minister, Bala Mohammed made this disclosure on Monday after the FCT Operations Briefing Meeting in his office.
In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Honourable Minister, Mohammad Sule, The Minister noted that this feat had been achieved despite the heavy raining season that has made disposal dump site a bit difficult.
Bala Mohammed revealed that a total of 761 street traders/hawkers were arrested, with 674 of them prosecuted and convicted; adding that 31 out of the convicted traders were sentenced to various terms of prison.
The Minister further disclosed that during the period under review, the FCT Administration also arrested 172 beggars / destitute and 72 minors; warning that hard times await anybody involve in environmental nuisances in the entire 8,000 square kilometers of the Federal Capital Territory.
He remarked that the Abuja Environmental Protection Board inspected 1,976 premises for proper sanitation; while in the process 85 premises were fumigated during the same period.
