The Director General, National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Mr.Yemi Kale has said that the progress of government can only measured by accurate and relIable data.
The NBS DG said this at the General Household Survey (GHS) Panel Wave 2 Data launch on Thursday in Abuja.
Mr. Kale pointed out that with increasing demand for data NBS is positioning itself to be a major support to Nigeria’s development process.
“You will agree with me that the timing of this launch is indeed auspicious coming at the period where there is increasing demand for statistical information which is used to prepare sectorial national plans, projects, programme, evaluate governance,monitor progress and effectively monitor our national progress.”
The Head of the Statistics Bureau noted that the Bureau would align it overall goal to national aspiration which is to become one of the leading 20 economies worldwide.
“NBS is setting up the quality of agriculture data to support policy makers in that sector to develop meaningful anf effective evidence based policies and programmes,” Mr. Kale added
Also speaking, Nigeria Country Director, World Bank, Mrs. Marie Francoise Marie Nelly observed that the Federal Government is gradually increasing its focus on the importance od Statistical data.
This is even as she noted that with the improvement in data generation by NBS has led to the need by state government’s to develop their states.
