Medical and Health professionals have been advised to look for a way to make sure that the number of people travelling outside the country in search for health care is reduced to a bearable minimum.
This advise was given by the Chairman Senate Committee on health, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa during the Inauguration of the governing Boards of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi, National Obstetric Fistula centre Abakaliki and the National Ear Care Centre, Kaduna.
Senator Okowa emphasised the need for medical and health professionals to see themselves as partners in progress rather than competitors in order to bring about the needed development in the health sector. He added that the upper chamber is doing everything possible to make sure that the National Health bill is passed before the Christmas holiday.
While delivering his address the honourable minister of health Prof. Oyebuchi Chukwu urged the newly inaugurated board members to play their roles void of sentiment and favouritism in line with laid down laws that constitute these various institutions.
He stated clearly that they are not to interfere with the day to day running of their establishments but provide oversight function so as to ensure, accountability, building of capacity, and carry out disciplinary action when necessary. Adding that any Board that does not meet the benchmark for performance by the Federal government Risks being dissolved.
