No fewer than 200 youths are set be trained in the second edition of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Program organized by the State Ministry of Youth Entrepreneurship and Sports Development (MYESD), Anambra State.
The youths who registered voluntarily for the program were drawn from the 21 local government area of the state.
The training which would last for two weeks would take place at the Federal Youth Centre, Mgbakwu, in Awka North local government Council.
Some of the skills to be learnt include, shoemaking, confectionary and decorations, phone repair and solar power.
Others are interlocking, landscaping, tiling and wall screeding, fish hatchery, and hair making and make-up.
It would be recalled that the state government, under the leadership of Governor Willie Obiano had mapped out several programmes geared towards improving the standard of living among youths, as over 200 youths were equally trained during the first phase, which was last year.
Speaking at the opening ceremony held at premises of the ministry, Commissioner, MYESD, Mrs Uju Nwogu, noted that the training was aimed at giving Anambra youths business orientation, to be self sufficient and become employers of labour.
According to Barr Nwogu ” the programme will inculcate in the youths, self-confidence, equip them with contemporary skills, make them self-reliant, take them off the streets and awaken them to the reality that entrepreneurship is a potential career path in the face of dwindling economy/recession and massive youth unemployment in Nigeria.”
She commended the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano, for his lofty developmental plans to transform the status of every youths in the state, which had been one of his enablers to provide enabling ground for youths to strive.
While describing Chief Obiano as a youth-friendly governor, the Sports Boss X-rayed belief of the present administration, that developing an entrepreneurial mindset in the youths was a panacea to massive youths unemployment and a sure path to economic growth.
Mrs Nwogu disclosed that the last phase of the exercise was a huge success, following the various products and items the trainees manufactured in pushed in market, which according to her would boost local production and enhance financial respite.
“Even at the point of training, people were already bringing in their phones for repair, so, l can tell you a good number of them have been self-employed. We even have a youth department that monitors their activities.”
She enjoined the trainees to make good use of this opportunity and take their training seriously and also conduct themselves in a manner that would not betray the confidence reposed in them.
Speaking also, State Head of Service, Barr Harry Uduh, commended the state governor for supporting the initiative.
Speaking also, the State Head of Service, Barr Harry Uduh, stressed that Governor Obiano administration had provided various opportunities for youths to tap into, saying the establishment Anambra State Business Agency (ASBA), would be a veritable platform to boost their productivity, by accessing loans of different degrees.
While commending the governor for the initiative, Barr Uduh hailed the ministry for sustaining the tempo of the exercise, saying such would always expose them to another level of business venture.
Others who spoke were Head of Service, Barr. Harry Uduh, Coordinator, SouthEast Economic Development Centre, Dr. Osita Aniemeka, a Director in the ministry of Health, Dr. Emma Okafor, Managing Director, Anambra State Business Agency, Clement Chukwuka, a representative of Standard Organisation of Nigeria, Blessing Okata.
Others dignitries present includes, Permanent Secretaries, Special Advisers, and Senior Special Assistants.
Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Linus Nwankwo, in his vote of thanks, thanked all for making out time to come, he also thanked the governor for his contributions in impacting in the lives of youths in the state.
